Erin (Elena) Green she/her, CMHCI

Affinity based mental health care focuses on alignment between client and counselor. For me, alignment between people means honoring that every person should feel welcome and wanted no matter who they are. I believe that feeling confident comes from having our needs honored. My therapeutic approach is focused on you and your unique needs, and how to identify your needs and speak about them confidently to the people in your life. I specialize in geek therapy, play therapy, and internal family systems therapy approaches. Geek therapy is an approach to mental healthcare that turns exploration of special interests into opportunities for connection and healing. I have a foundation in cognitive behavioural therapy that allows me to teach my clients coping skills and tools for the biggest, most demanding challenges that come up during times of adversity. Healing starts at home, I help my clients find a home within themselves that they can always go back to.

I received my bachelor of arts in English Lit from The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Tx. I studied at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) for a masters clinical mental health counseling. NMHU is an approved member of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. My training at NMHU included a special focus on clinical assessment and diagnosis of mental health related disorders.

I have experience working with children, teens, and adults. I offer in person and telehealth counseling for individuals, partner(s), families, and group counseling. I work with people from all backgrounds, any person seeking counseling is welcome in my office. I strive to be multiculturally curious everyday of my life. I offer counseling in both English and Spanish. I have experience treating ADHD and related neurodivergent challenges, grief and loss, complex trauma, relationship/attachment style challenges, postpartum depression, and body reclamation for survivors of physical trauma.

I believe that each person’s experience is unique and deserves a compassionate and empathetic approach. My goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where you can explore and express your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I am committed to walking alongside you as we work together to accept and befriend difficult emotions, fostering greater self-understanding and resilience.

In our sessions, I utilize evidence-based practices tailored to your specific needs and circumstances. I prefer an eclectic approach, drawing from several modalities such as TF-CBT, EMDR, Mindfulness, and DBT. We may focus on recognizing and embracing your strengths while addressing obstacles that hinder your progress. I believe that through cultivating a sense of self-acceptance, you may be empowered to make meaningful change and work towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.

With years of experience working with a diverse range of clients, I have had the privilege of helping individuals and families navigate anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, identity / LGBTQ+ issues, and faith transitions. I am here to support you through life’s challenges, providing a space where you can heal, grow, and discover inner strengths.

I work with individuals ages 14+

We all know how difficult life can be. It can be filled with many ups and downs. As a counselor, I want nothing more but to help individuals be able to grow through hard times. I believe that on the other side of any challenge is a stronger person. I can assist in helping you accept the difficulties and challenges of life, allowing yourself to step towards them rather than run away, and ultimately realize the full potential that you have.

I believe in the core foundation as testified by Victor Frankl and Anne Frank, that all people are inherently good and have goodness within them. Through the goodness and values that we all have, we can use those values to help us accept and meet the challenges of life head on. Stepping towards challenges gives us the feeling of living a full and meaningful life. I follow the tenets of psychologist Dr. Carl Rogers who emphasized the importance of “unconditional positive regard” which means that I will never judge anyone and want to create a safe place for difficult emotions to be expressed. Through a strong and trusting relationship, together we can address and navigate the deepest of challenges. We are all in this journey together and I believe building relationships through expressing empathy, compassion, and understanding are key to helping individuals heal and change.

I am currently a student at Utah Valley University enrolled in their Clinical Mental Health Masters Program. I obtained my undergraduate from Utah Valley University in psychology and business management. Seeing the growth and change in other people is the reason why I do this type of work. Knowing that I am making a difference gives a feeling like nothing else in the world. I specialize in early returned missionaries, faith crisis, young adults/college students, and teenagers.

Each person has a different experience in life. I want to help you learn from past experiences, explore your personality, and help you create a more fulfilling life. Counseling and therapy have come a long way in recent years, breaking the stigma and helping you become the best version of yourself is my goal. Whether it is struggling with anxiety, depression, social anxiety, ADHD, etc. I am here to build an individual plan and collaborate with you. Using a collaborative approach, you will be a part of your own process, not just being told what to do like another homework assignment or work project.

Daily life is great until it’s not. You may have been coping your whole life and figured out how to deal with things on your own, you may have recently started feeling a certain way that is off and just can’t figure out why? I can help you understand and use a personalized counseling approach specifically for you.

Understanding yourself better and knowing how you have been wired to process life and making the necessary adjustments to improve your life is just the beginning of a great, joyful life.

Mental health is a lifelong journey, and it is okay to take time to care for yourself and ask for help. I believe it is a sign of strength to seek support when you need it most. I am here to support and guide you through any challenges you may be facing. It is important for me to build a relationship founded on empathy, trust, and respect. I will create a safe, nonjudgmental place for you to navigate and express your thoughts and feelings, develop skills to manage life’s difficulties and heal from past trauma. The removal of shame and guilt, and the development of self-love will be central to your healing and self-discovery. Together, we will strive to identify what is not working and move toward a more joyful and meaningful life.

Every person is unique and has their own story. With an empathetic approach, I will help you develop insights, identify strengths and resources, and find new ways to cope with your unique challenges. I believe in not only considering psychological and emotional needs but also physical, social, and if so desired, spiritual needs as well. Malcolm X said, “When I is replaced with WE, even Illness becomes Wellness.” No one should do it alone, and I would be honored to be on your journey of wellness.

I have been married for 26 years and am the lucky parent of 5 kids. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Utah and my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Utah Valley University. I believe we are lifelong learners. I am continually looking for opportunities to expand my counseling profession through education and training. My greatest teachers are you! I learn from you every day – your struggles, your successes, and your resilience! I am amazed by your growth and your desire to change. I specialize in working with children, adults, and couples.

Let’s face it, few if anyone’s life goes according to plan. Challenges, obstacles, and hardships come to each of us, at times knocking us down on the ground. To get back on our feet, we may need a hand to lift us, be taught new skills, and receive encouragement to keep moving forward. There is meaning and purpose in life. It is my hope to work with you on your journey to find the satisfaction you seek.

With this goal in mind, I sought out opportunities to be qualified to effectively and compassionately do this work. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of Utah, where I was involved with student organizations to advocate for diverse populations and to promote eating disorder awareness and education. I went on to earn a Master of Social Work Degree from Brigham Young University, where I completed a clinically-oriented program, focusing on therapeutic interventions and working with individuals, groups, and families. My research focused on the relationships between positive sibling relationships, family resiliency, and the metabolic control of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

Throughout my post-graduate career, I’ve had diverse experiences working with teens, young adults, and adults. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, eating disorders (including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and dia-bulimia), grief, loss, addiction, diabetes, kidney disease, and other chronic conditions. I have worked in residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care. I completed training to teach Stanford University’s Living Well with Chronic Conditions, Diabetes, and Chronic Pain program. I have facilitated classes, helping many to better manage their physical and mental health. At my core, I’m passionate about helping people care for their bodies, mind, and soul.

I believe in the growth and potential of every person, and in the capacity to overcome. There is hope, meaning, and purpose in life. I look forward to helping you on your journey.

I use an integrated approach of Attachment Based Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, somatic memory reconsolidation and Internal Family Systems with a deep emphasis on compassion bringing alongside a neurological lens and behavioral techniques from ACT, DBT, RO-DBT and CBT. The approach I use allows us to get at the root of issues while nurturing growth to move forward confidently, efficiently and effectively.

My experience working in Social Work and with mental health has a vast range. While I was in my academic study, I felt it was imperative that I also gain hands on experiences outside the classroom. I have worked with children, teens and adults in hospitals, school setting, domestic and sexual violence crisis, residential care, intensive outpatient, detox and court mandated treatment.

I work with ages 10 and up.

Therapy is one of the best forms of self-love and self-care. I applaud anyone who sets aside time and
makes space for working on their mental health, managing their stress, dealing with life transitions,
improving their relationships, addressing past trauma, or any other thing that might bring them to
therapy. I believe that each person is an expert on themselves and has an innate ability to heal. I
want to meet my clients in a spirit of collaboration and respect.

I began providing therapy 11 years ago and have enjoyed working with many kinds of people across
the age span from children to teens to college students to middle-aged adults to octogenarians; with
parents, individuals, couples, families, students, veterans, inmates, substance abusers, teens in state’s custody, trauma survivors, adoptees, LGBTQ individuals, immigrants, and people of diverse
religious or non-religious backgrounds. For me, being with people in therapy is a privilege because I
get to see the best of them as they heal, learn, and grow.

I am EMDR trained and have been working with those overcoming various forms of trauma since the
beginning of my career. I have also worked with people dealing with depression, anxiety, attachment
issues, relationships issues, anger, mood disorders, ADHD, life transitions, faith transitions,
substance, and behavioral addictions, navigating gender and sexuality, among other things. I am an
attachment-focused therapist who considers the effects your attachment styles/history and quality of relationships have on your overall wellbeing. I also use concepts and techniques from motivational
interviewing, CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, and art therapy. I believe in a holistic approach to mental
health that involves marshaling all forms of self-care: mindfulness, diet, exercise, sports, dance, art,
music, hobbies, community, etc. I am happy to coordinate (with your permission) with your other
counseling or medical providers to make sure you get the best care possible.

I see children as young as 10 and as old as 110.
